USSSA World Series 2025

Thank you for supporting our team.

The Harbor City Knights are committed to helping our girls become great women who will become leaders in their families, neighborhoods work spaces and our country. This is being accomplished by teaching and demonstrating the high principles, character and values that build successful families, communities and cultures.

Most parents, and coaches, talk about building principles, character and values, but when the time comes, they may not step up. We have all seen players who demonstrate poor sportsmanship, are rude, and bully other players and teams. Those players learn that somewhere.

We can proudly say that our girls are the shining light in this area. We hear from other parents and coaches how great our girls are. No matter what is happening on the field, our girls are true sportsmen. They have fun together and make the games fun for the other teams.

Principles, character and values in action:

The clock was winding down, game tied 0-0, we were the home team. Chloe came up to bat and singled on a line drive to left field. Since Chloe was catching, Toni was put in as a courtesy runner. Tori came up to bat but did not reach base. 1 out, 1 on. Ava was third up, and singled on a hard ground ball to third base. Toni actually stopped at second base giving us 2 on, 1 out. Coach Jess decided to put in a courtesy runner since Ava was pitching. Cara came sprinting on to the field and took her place at first base. Brooklyn was up next. The first pitch was a ball.

While in the dugout, Coach Jess realized that Cara should not have been the courtesy runner. Due to the excitement of the moment, rapid decisions being made by multiple coaches and the girls wanting to be on the field, this probably happens more than anyone admits. Coach Jess, knowing Cara should not be on base, called time and spoke to the umpire. After a brief conversation, the umpired called Cara out. Now we had 1 on and 2 outs. Since time running out, if we didn’t score, the game would end in a tie. Although the outcome was not good for the team, Coach Jess showed that honesty and integrity are more important than the game. As the at bat continued, Brooklyn walked and Toni stole third. As time expired, Morgan walked to the plate. First pitch, strike 1. Now it was 2 on, 2 outs, time expired. The girls were excited; the parents were nervous.

The pitcher started her routine and let the ball fly. Morgan was focused, loaded and ready. As she swung, the ball rocketed into left center field. Everyone knew the game was over. Toni took off for home and we won 1-0.

Although karma was on our side that day, it could have gone the other way. Had we not scored, and the game ended in a tie, some may have questioned why Coach Jess said anything to the umpire.

She talked to the umpire, because it was the right thing to do regardless of the outcome. That’s what teaching principles, character and values are about. In ten years, no one will remember the game or the play, but the girls will remember the lessons they learn from the coaches. That will lead them to be great women in their families and society.
